For the first time today I ran with a backpack on. I bought an Adidas Running Lightweight Backpack quite a few weeks ago but have never got around to trying it out until now. I really didn’t know if I would be able to tolerate running with something on my back.
You really can’t tell what size it is from the image on most websites (above) and I was prepared for the possibility it might barely have room for much more that a water bottle/bladder and a few small things.
In fact i think it could carry quite a bit more as long as you can pack it in a way that keeps it still close against your body. The image on run4it gives a better idea although I’m not sure what it would be like to run with it if there was quite that much in it.
What I found out from my experiment so far -
- Need to be wearing a top with a small neck opening to stop arm strap rubbing against neck
- You get used to the sway of the bag moving
- In fact you hardly notice at all after a while
- Don’t notice sweaty back as much as I thought
- Although the side-pockets that wrap round seem to be perfectly placed and sized for a mobile/Ipod, it’s very clear when you put something in them that you actually want that area to be soft and flexible
- The tightening laces at the side seemed to have been accidentally stitched to the bag itself in several places. I could believe that’s the way they’re supposed to be and it was only for show except that it was in a different place on each side of the bag. Maybe I got a defective bag or maybe that’s just the way it’s supposed to be.
- Unclear how to add water bladder. Plenty of loops to hold water tubes but they seem to lead into large back area with no internal pockets or straps to secure it.
